Grameen Surya Bijlee Foundation (GSBF) is a Foundation set-up to provide lighting and other amenities to the rural underpriveleged in the villages and in the semi urban and urban areas .
GSBF aims to harness Renewable Energy sources, focused currently on solar energy using White LED’s (Light Emitting Diodes ) as the principal source of Luminosity .
As a goal the Foundation aims to develop solutions in Lighting so that the use of inefficient Incandescent Lamps ( power consumed as against quantum of Light output generated) and environmentally unfriendly CFL (Compact Flourescent Lamps) is reduced and thereinafter eliminated .
Dignity through Electricity
GSBF is committed to providing a minimum lighting to every village home and community it can get a sponsor for. For how you can be a sponsor please click on Donations. It has started the Dignity through Electricity Program. This is a Program for the people who are moved by the magnitude of the problem and definitely want something to be done. The Program now invites all Corporates, NGO’s , Rotarian and Lion Clubs, Schools and Colleges, Social Welfare Organizations and Millions of Individuals who can make a difference to the lives of the so many millions of people in darkness.
Each donor sponsor can adopt from one home to several homes to full village clusters. GSBF shall install and maintain the system and assures the Donor that any systems shall be maintained in working conditions and any operational problems attended to immediately.
Village Lighting
The primary goal under this objective is to provide extremely low cost, durable and efficient lighting systems to the village home and the community. Initially the goal would be to focus on providing quality and bare bone lighting to the village home and later to the community.
The underlying objective in all the programs shall be to make the village self-sufficient in meeting its energy requirements through off-grid systems, powered primarily by low energy.
LED Lamps powered by Solar Panels. The whole program is unique in that it lights up a village home with just under 2 watts of power. The light quality is good and light is available for at least 4 hours non-stop.GSBF can supply high volumes of systems having sourced components from different large sized suppliers with adequate capacity of meeting any volume which may arise.
Technology Focus
The Foundation has been founded by Technocrats who wish to use new and state-of-the art Technology to create innovative and energy efficient products.
Various Technologies ranging from Amorphous Silicon (A-Si) Thin Film Solar Cells to the new Light Emitting Diodes(LED’s) , are all being used by the Foundation in the initial products. These in turn help in reducing costs to levels not possible before and at the same time extending product lifecycles and efficiencies.
Global Initiative
GSBF is a global initiative in solving day-to-day energy related problems at the village level. It thus needs partners who can add value to this initiative. This assistance can come in any form, either by way of donations or even by way of free system components from manufacturers.
